The Terre Nouvelle project began in the fall of 2004. The main person behind this project, François Cormier, wanted to create an NGO whose primary mission would be to promote environmental advances and innovations. This idea was born out of a need demonstrated by the creators that environmentalists suffered from a lack of visibility. The main project consisted of an environmental show for the general public, put together by a new organization called Terre Nouvelle.
Although this type of show had never been created up to that point, the idea of having an environmental show for the general public was already going around. In 2005, François Cormier and his new partners decided to create a work co-op, since this model reflected their values well (democracy, cooperation, etc.), while providing more autonomy and flexibility than an NGO.
First-prize winner in the 2006 entrepreneur competition for East Montreal, the Coopérative de Travail Terre Nouvelle also represented the region of Montreal in the national final in the category of social economy. It was also illustrated by winning the Phoenix Award, the highest honor given to environmental organization in Quebec, in the category of "Education and Awareness" in 2008. Terre Nouvelle is organizing the fourth edition of the Salon national del'environnement and open the doors of its permanent space in spring 2009.
